Alex and Jim

"...When that didn't work I tried to scare him with bear stories..." (Krakauer 6).

Travel advice.

I see why Jim was trying so hard to try to convince Alex of the dangers of his journey, but was it really his place to try to convince him to abandon it all together? a lot of us already know how the story of Alex Supertramp ends, but it is the story that placed his legacy on this world. With this Jim had just met Alex, even though he seemed to be just genuinely caring for Alex it was not his place to be telling him that what he was doing was foolhardy. Alex has had his mind set on this journey for quite some time and do not think he would be easily persuaded by a stranger. like I said earlier, this was the hallmark for his legacy. where it began and ended. I feel that is why he did this all in the first place. in hopes that the world would somehow be known of his efforts on escape and isolation to lead a better life then the one he had. to show that it was possible to be happy without society that with the freedom of grip of society, a person comes to realize who they are and who they were meant to be. Alex was meant to be this. A doer of the dreamed.

Be Heartfelt

"I didn't know what I was going to say. How do you tell someone that their child is dead?" (Krakauer 210)

Family Matters.

Sam. Charlie was your blood as well as theirs. You have got to be feeling a lot of emotions right now, so when you tell then about the death of Charlie think about yourself getting the news for the first, about how you felt. this is not a subject to talk about lightly so do your best to be as sensitive about it as you can. But most of all be as heartfelt about it as you can. the more you acknowledge the pain of the news and the more they can see that you do, shall make it easier for them as well as for you.

Outside world is always needed.

"I don't want to know what time it is. I don't want to know what day it is  or where I am. None of that matters." (Krakauer 7)

Inspiration or fool?

To be quite honest this was a very foolish choice. I personally think that I would have been better for Alex to have had something to do with the outside world, something as little as time very well could have helped him to survive a little bit longer. with time, he would be able to have some kind of schedule so that he wouldn't have felt so rushed to have had something to eat and possibly have not made the mistake of eating poisonous berries.
